NUWAKOT: Minister for Information and Communication Dr Bikram Timilsina on Saturday inspected different landslides occurring sites and the human settlements affected from the disasters in Nuwakot district.
After the inspection visits and consultations, Minister Dr Timilsina asked the concerned agencies and officials to immediately protect the communities and shift the risk-prone settlements, ensure vehicular movements along the disrupted roads, supply drinking water, electricity and other essential services.
Minister Dr Timilsina visited a settlement affected from the Semrang landslide in Suryagadhi Rural Municipality-1 and in Phatpur and Paharethok in ward-2.
During the inspections, Minister Dr Timilsina enquired the locals about the causes of the landslides and the status of the road networks, people’s mobility, power disruption, water supply facility from Dwache Drinking Water Project and other related aspects.
Similarly, Minister Dr Timilsina inspected the landslides at Ratmate and Ramche in ward-2 and Devithan as well and the damages caused to the pipeline of water supply there.
During the interactions with the stakeholders, district disaster management committee, local people and others, Minister Dr Timilsina pledged to advance necessary steps based on the technical studies.
He said the federal government is ready to implement the decisions based on the recommendations and added that efforts will be made to ensure safety in the settlement and to immediately shift the affected households if safety measures did not protect them.
Minister Dr Timilsina also directed the government agencies to ensure alternative measures to clear the obstructions and resume traffic in different road sections in the district.
Chief District Officer and Coordinator of District Disaster Management Committee Shambhu Prasad Regmi and the officials of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Nepal Electricity Authority, Road Division Office and Infrastructure Development Office joined the Minister during the inspections of the landslides and disaster-prone settlements.
On the occasion, Minister Dr Timilsina said the federal government will advance the tasks of infrastructure development, maintenance and others key issues by taking all bodies on board at the earliest possible time.
