KATHMANDU: Nepal’s U-19 cricket team has qualified for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup after defeating Malaysia by nine wickets in the semifinal today.
Chasing a 52-run target at the Ajman ground in the UAE, Nepal reached 53/1 in just 7.5 overs. Bansh Kshetri scored an unbeaten 23, while Nischal Kshetri remained not out on 15. Malaysia’s Mohammad Akram took the lone wicket.
Earlier, put in to bat, Malaysia were bowled out for 51 runs in 17.2 overs. Hamzah Pangi top-scored with 13 and Muhammad Fathul Muin added 11, while the rest of the lineup failed to reach double figures.
For Nepal, Nitis Kumar Patel starred with four wickets, Chandan Ram took three, and captain Ashok Dhammi, Roshan Bishwakarma and Aparajit Paudel picked up one wicket each.
The tournament features 14 teams, with the top three earning qualification for the upcoming ACC U-19 Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup is scheduled for December in the UAE.
