PM Karki calls for women’s inclusion in state policy-making



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has stressed the need to ensure women’s participation at the policy-making levels of the state.

Speaking at a programme held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar on the occasion of the 116th International Women’s Day, PM Karki said women who remain marginalized and excluded from mainstream development continue to face greater hardships.

“It has become imperative to bring the voices of women—especially Dalit women, women from Karnali, women from Madhes, and those from other marginalized communities—into the policy-making levels of the state,” she said.

The prime minister noted that the situation of marginalized women, including Dalit and Madhesi women and those from the Karnali region, has yet to see significant improvement.

She emphasized the importance of integrating communities left behind in the development process, including women, into the mainstream and ensuring their access to opportunities and resources.

PM Karki also said that ensuring the dignified participation of every citizen in nation-building should be a fundamental principle of democracy.

Referring to the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9, 2025, she said its central demands were equality and good governance, adding that active cooperation from all sectors of society is essential to end injustice, discrimination and inequality.

“Our constitution has guaranteed women’s rights as fundamental rights,” she said. “It has also established equal representation, inclusive participation, gender equality and social justice as the foundation of the state system.”
