Govt allocates Rs 211.17 billion for education

KATHMANDU: The government has allocated Rs 211.17 billion for the education sector in the upcoming fiscal year through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

The announcement was made as part of the national budget presentation by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel in the Federal Parliament.

The budget includes a provision of Rs 10.19 billion for the school mid-day meal program, ensuring continued nutritional support for students. The government also announced plans to encourage the merger of schools to improve efficiency and resource management.

Minister Paudel confirmed that existing scholarship programs, including those for Musahar, Dalit, and other marginalized students, will remain unchanged. Additionally, medical education scholarships will prioritize students from poor and disadvantaged regions.

The budget further states that universities will receive grants based on necessity, while those failing to comply with regulations will face reductions in financial support.

In the current fiscal year, the government had allocated Rs 203.66 billion for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The increased allocation reflects a continued emphasis on inclusive and accountable development in Nepal’s education system.
