Allegations against me are politically motivated: Home Minister Lekhak

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that the accusations surrounding his alleged involvement in the visit visa scandal are politically motivated.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Lekhak firmly denied any involvement in the issue and stated that he only learned from the media about the questioning of Joint -Secretary Tirtha Raj Bhattarai on May 22 and the seizure of his electronic devices.

“This is a political attack. I have no involvement in the matter. The way my name is being linked to the case is baseless,” he said.

Lekhak also expressed disappointment that he was not given an opportunity to address Parliament despite requesting time to respond. “Since I couldn’t speak in Parliament, I have chosen this press conference to make my stance clear,” he added.

He emphasized the transparency of his personal and political life, saying, “I live a public life, and I am among the people.”

Lekhak also stated that he learned about Bhattarai’s interrogation by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) through the media. He assured full cooperation with any investigation conducted by the CIAA.

The press conference came after continued disruption in Parliament by opposition parties demanding his resignation.
