House session disrupted again

KATHMANDU: Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives was once again disrupted after opposition lawmakers resumed their protest over Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s involvement in the visit visa controversy.

Despite an earlier agreement among party whips and Chief Whips during a consultation with Speaker Devraj Ghimire to allow the meeting to proceed, opposition parties blocked the session from moving forward.

As the session began, lawmakers from the Maoist Centre, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) stood up in protest, prompting Speaker Ghimire to suspend the meeting for 30 minutes.

The session had already been delayed from its original schedule at 11 am to 1 pm after opposition obstruction on Tuesday forced its postponement. Although talks were held to create an environment to move forward, the deadlock between the ruling coalition and opposition over Lekhak’s resignation persisted.

Speaker Ghimire appealed to the opposition to allow proceedings, noting that the Home Minister had requested time to address the allegations. However, opposition MPs continued to protest by standing throughout the session.
