RPP also rejects govt-formed probe committee



KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has rejected the investigation committee formed by the government to probe the recent visit visa scandal.

Speaking during Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, RPP Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi said the party could not accept the probe committee led by former Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi.

“We object to this committee. It was formed under the influence of those it is supposed to investigate,” said Shahi. “If the accused leads the investigation, it’s like asking a cat to guard the milk — it will not deliver justice.”

Following its objection, the RPP also boycotted Tuesday’s parliamentary meeting. Earlier, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) had also walked out of the session, expressing similar concerns over the composition of the committee.

The government recently formed a committee led by Bairagi to investigate alleged irregularities in the issuance of visit visas and immigration processes.

Leaders from both the RSP and RPP have raised concerns about possible conflicts of interest, as some figures associated with the issue are believed to have influence over the probe.
