Bhotekoshi flood: 1,384 bodies recovered, over 4,000 missing



KATHMANDU: A total of 1,384 bodies have been recovered so far from the devastating floods that swept through the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26.

According to Nepal Police Headquarters, the highest number of bodies has been recovered in Chitwan, where 364 bodies have been found. Similarly, 229 bodies have been recovered in Nawalparasi East, 222 in Nawalparasi West, 199 in Nuwakot and 185 in Rasuwa. Police also reported recovering 77 bodies in Gorkha, 70 in Dhading and 38 in Tanahun.

Central Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle said the identification and necessary procedures for 1,230 bodies have been completed and the bodies have been properly managed. DNA samples have been collected from unidentified bodies and preserved for identification purposes, while the bodies have been buried safely.

So far, DNA samples have been collected from 3,132 deceased individuals and their relatives to assist with identification. Nepal Police has also published details of 1,339 unidentified bodies on its official website.

Meanwhile, 4,089 people remain missing following the floods. A total of 7,975 police personnel have been mobilized in the affected areas for search, rescue and relief operations.
