GHORAHI: Jyamire pond in Ghorahi is rapidly developing into a favored spot for domestic tourists. Each day, over 100 visitors come to enjoy the natural beauty of Jyamire Daha located in Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City-13.
Rina Basnet, chairperson of the Jyamire Daha Community Consumer Group, shared that the number of tourists rises significantly on holidays. While about 80 tourists visit on regular days, the count exceeds 100 during holidays.
The lake covers an area of 30 hectares, surrounded by the Jyamire Daha Community Forest, which spans 483.5 hectares. Basnet noted that plans are underway to enhance infrastructure to attract even more visitors. Boats have already been introduced to increase recreational opportunities at the lake.
Boat operator Aite BK mentioned that life jackets are provided to ensure safety for visitors who swim alongside the boats. He said domestic tourists come daily for boating, swimming, and picnicking.
“A dam was constructed to improve the natural lake, which visitors say has enhanced its scenic beauty,” Aite said. “Boating services are available for both domestic and foreign tourists.”
According to Aite, boating is especially popular during holidays and festivals. Tickets are priced at Rs 100 per person, with rides lasting between 15 and 40 minutes around the lake.
With Jyamire Daha’s growing popularity, local business has also picked up. Tourists arrive from Dang, Butwal, Nepalgunj, and Bardiya to visit the area, he added.
Sanam DC of Ghorahi-10 emphasized the need for improved infrastructure such as a waiting room and drinking water facilities. “A waiting room is essential to provide shelter during extreme heat or rain. Developing these amenities will enhance convenience for tourists, promote tourism, increase local income, and create employment opportunities,” he said.
Rekha KC from Ghorahi-15 urged local, provincial, and federal governments to take initiatives to further promote tourism in the area.
“During the rainy season, domestic tourists flock here to enjoy the natural beauty and boat rides. Therefore, the lake area should be better organized and maintained,” she added.
