Home Ministry denies Minister Lekhak’s involvement in visa scandal

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has clarified that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has no involvement in the alleged “visit visa” scandal at the Tribhuvan International Airport’s Immigration Office.

In a statement released on Friday, the ministry strongly refuted media reports and social media claims suggesting the ministry’s, or the minister’s, involvement in the case of alleged illegal monetary dealings linked to visit visa processing.

“The news circulating on some media platforms is baseless, misleading, and unfounded,” read the ministry’s statement. It further stated that Minister Lekhak had no connection with the issue and urged the media to publish reports based on verified facts.

Emphasizing its continued commitment to maintaining peace, order, and good governance, the ministry reiterated that it has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of irregularities and criminal activities.

It also confirmed that a serious investigation is underway into the incident at the immigration office and that accurate information is gradually being brought to light. The ministry assured full cooperation with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) during the ongoing probe.
