Over 68,000 Nepalis secure labor permits in Shrawan



KATHMANDU: More than 68,000 Nepalis received labor permits for foreign employment in the first month of the current fiscal year 2025/26, according to data released by the Department of Foreign Employment.

The department’s progress report for the month of Shrawan shows that a total of 68,110 people obtained labor permits, with men making up the overwhelming majority. Of them, 58,948 were men and 9,162 women, meaning women accounted for only about 13.45 percent of the total workers heading abroad.

The department said 31,830 individuals went through manpower recruitment agencies (29,130 men and 2,700 women, 23,644 workers obtained re-entry labor permits (20,547 men and 3,097 women), 11,772 people applied for individual labor permits and 864 workers traveled under government-to-government (G2G) arrangements to destinations such as South Korea, Israel, and the United Kingdom.

Alongside the attraction of foreign employment, cases of fraud continue to persist. The Department’s Legal and Investigation Division reported 580 complaints registered in Shrawan alone. Of these, 74 cases were settled through reconciliation, while 26 cases were filed in court.

During the same period, authorities recovered over Rs 35.3 million in compensation for victims.
