Sudan Gurung questions Home Minister Aryal over law and order failures

KATHMANDU: Sudan Gurung, a leader of the Gen-Z movement, has raised serious questions to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal regarding law and order in the country.

Gurung expressed dissatisfaction that while businessman Durga Prasai faced strong criticism for inciting society and making provocative statements, more powerful individuals who openly incite violence have not been held accountable.

He criticized the Home Minister for failing to take action against those openly challenging the government with violent rhetoric, despite leading internal security. Gurung pointed out that individuals responsible for targeting peaceful protesters with headshots during demonstrations are still walking free.

Addressing the minister, Gurung said, “If the rule of law cannot be enforced, what is the difference between the old regime and the current government? Which provision of the Constitution allows ‘punishment for the small, immunity for the powerful’?”

He further stated that without judicial action for the martyrs and injured youth, and without guaranteeing equal justice for all citizens, holding elections would be impossible.

Gurung demanded that the government conduct thorough investigations and take strict action against those responsible for violence.
