22 bodies found in a single house in Betrawati

NUWAKOT: The bodies of 22 people have been found inside a house buried by flood debris in Betrawati, Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot.

Security personnel and a search-and-rescue team recovered six bodies from the house on Monday, while efforts to retrieve the remaining 16 bodies will continue on Tuesday.

A devastating flood swept through the Trishuli River in Rasuwa on August 26, causing extensive destruction in Betrawati Bazaar. Six days after the disaster, rescuers discovered the 22 bodies at a single location during Monday’s search operation.

Authorities believe the victims may have taken shelter inside the house as the flood struck. The recovered bodies are in an advanced state of decomposition and are currently difficult to identify.

Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Office, Nuwakot, Bipin Regmi, confirmed that a large number of bodies had been found inside a house buried by the flood in Betrawati. He said six bodies were recovered on Monday and that the remaining bodies would be retrieved today (Tuesday).

Earlier, Betrawati-based journalist Laxman Dangol had called for an immediate search of the house. He said that although the Chief District Officer had requested the Prime Minister’s Office to initiate rescue efforts, no response was received at the time.
