KATHMANDU: A growing number of patients have been found suffering from hypertension, asthma, diabetes and heart-related diseases during a free health camp conducted in Sotang Rural Municipality–2 and 5 of Solukhumbu district.

The two-day health camp was organized jointly by Nepal Heart Foundation, Patan Rotary Club, Medicare Hospital and Chapel Foundation. Around 500 patients underwent health check-ups during the camp.

Senior cardiologist Prof. Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi said nearly 70 percent of those examined were found to have high blood pressure, while around 50 percent suffered from asthma-related problems. Similarly, 30 percent showed symptoms of heart disease and 15 percent were diagnosed with diabetes.

According to Dr. Regmi, congenital heart disease was detected in eight percent of patients, while rheumatic heart disease was found in five percent.

The camp also carried out health screening of approximately 2,500 children from 15 schools. Of them, 20 children were diagnosed with heart-related problems, and four were found to require immediate surgical intervention.

Patients received echocardiography (ECHO) and electrocardiogram (ECG) services during the camp. Medicines worth around Rs 500,000, provided by Lomus Pharma, were also distributed free of cost.

Doctors Urmila Shakya, Prem Raj Vaidya, Ajay Adhikari and Anjila Vaidya provided medical services during the health camp.
