KATHMANDU: Expelled from the UML, Dr Bhim Rawal has announced his intent to establish an alternative political force by uniting patriots across the country.
Leading the “Matri Bhumi Jagaran Abhiyan” (Motherland Awakening Campaign), Rawal recently toured his home province, Sudurpaschim, to promote collaboration among like-minded individuals.
Rawal arrived in Dhangadhi on Friday morning, sharing a seat on the same flight with UML Standing Committee member Karna Bahadur Thapa. He was en route to attend a program in his home district, Achham.
Despite traveling alongside Thapa, Rawal’s supporters at the airport were sparse, with only former provincial minister Krishna Subedi from the UML welcoming him.
Speaking to journalists, Rawal underscored the need for unity among patriots to safeguard the nation. He expressed his belief that the campaign would ultimately evolve into a larger movement, saying, “Like a snowball rolling down a mountain, our efforts may seem small now, but they will grow into a powerful avalanche of change.”
Rawal also revealed his intention to collaborate with independent figures, including Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, to strengthen his campaign.
When asked about discussions with Shah, Rawal said, “It would be beneficial for the nation to unite leaders like Balen and others who are committed to national interests. I am working towards that.”
On inquiries about Rabi Lamichhane, Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rawal refrained from commenting, citing ongoing legal proceedings involving Lamichhane.
Rawal’s interactions have not been limited to political independents. He recently attended tea receptions hosted by monarchist parties on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti.
Addressing speculations, Rawal clarified, “Meeting monarchists does not make me one. Collaborating with various groups is necessary to address the country’s challenges.”
Rawal emphasized that the current political environment, dominated by what he termed as “visionless, ideal-less, and principle-less” major parties, necessitates the rise of a new political force.
“We see rampant factionalism and corruption—whether in the appointment of prime ministers or the distribution of university positions and land commissions. This must end,” he said.
Although Rawal has not formally announced the establishment of a new party, he stated that the “Matri Bhumi Jagaran Abhiyan” will lay the groundwork for a national movement. He expressed confidence that his initiative would gain momentum and bring together all patriotic individuals.
“This campaign will eventually take the form of a political party as required,” Rawal said, adding that the journey he has begun will bring significant political change.
While Rawal’s campaign has garnered attention, its reception in his home province has been lukewarm.
Observers noted a lack of significant support compared to his prior visits as a UML leader. However, Rawal remains undeterred, vowing to persist in his efforts to unite patriots for the nation’s betterment.
