Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal withdraws support from Oli-led government

KATHMANDU: The Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSP-N) has formally withdrawn its support from the KP Sharma Oli-led coalition government.

Although the party was not part of the cabinet, it had been a member of the ruling seven-party alliance. The decision to pull support was made during a parliamentary party meeting held on Wednesday, according to JSP-N lawmaker Rajkishor Yadav.

While the party had already expressed dissatisfaction and hinted at withdrawing support earlier, the move comes just two days after Upendra Yadav held talks with Prime Minister Oli at Baluwatar. Despite discussions with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and PM Oli about inducting Yadav into the cabinet, the plan appears to have fallen through.

JSP-N’s withdrawal follows a similar move by Ranjita Shrestha-led Nagarik Unmukti Party, which had already submitted its withdrawal notice to the Parliament Secretariat. The latest development leaves the Oli government in a clear minority in the National Assembly, potentially complicating the passage of bills in the upper house.
