KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Climate Action Week (KCAW) 2026, which is being positioned as Nepal’s National Climate Week, is set to be held in Kathmandu with the aim of establishing the capital as a platform for climate dialogue, collaboration and action in South Asia.
Inspired by global initiatives such as London Climate Action Week, the flagship event will be organised in collaboration with Kathmandu Metropolitan City and will bring together civil society organisations, youth networks, experts, development partners, local governments and other stakeholders to strengthen climate action and climate-responsive governance in Nepal.
The initiative is being led by a coalition comprising the Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR), National Indigenous Disabled Women Association Nepal (NIDWAN), Himalayan Carbon Pvt. Ltd., Himalayan Space Solutions Limited, Bagmati UNESCO Club, Youth For Environment Education and Development Foundation (YFEED Foundation), Ideas International and National Campaign for Sustainable Development Nepal (NACASUD-Nepal), in close collaboration with the Disaster Preparedness Network-Nepal (DPNet).
The organisers have also approached regional and international organisations, including the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Asia Centre, Climate Week Network (CWN) and Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY), as potential regional partners.
According to Bishnu Pandey, Media and Press Coordinator of the KCAW 2026 Secretariat, the event will provide a common platform for dialogue, partnerships, knowledge-sharing and practical climate action while connecting local priorities with national, regional and global climate agendas.
“The initiative seeks to bring diverse climate stakeholders together on a common platform and strengthen Kathmandu’s role as a centre for climate dialogue and action,” Pandey said.
