NEPALGUNJ: Construction of a model settlement for disadvantaged communities has commenced in Kohalpur, Banke.
The settlement, which is being built for Chidimar and Khatik families living in Municipality-14, Havaldarpur, has been funded with Rs 4 million.
Initiated by the municipality, the Neighborhood Service Society (NSS) is undertaking the construction of houses for the most disadvantaged Chidimar and Khatik communities.
Kohalpur Municipality Mayor Purna Prasad Acharya stated that eight houses have been completed in the first phase of the model settlement program.
He emphasized that the local government has a responsibility to improve the living standards of poor families, and this settlement is part of that effort.
The NSS also plans to extend the model settlement program to other areas, building homes for disadvantaged communities.
According to Kohalpur-14 Ward Chair Nam Bahadur Ale, around 30 families from the Chidimar and Khatik communities reside in Havaldarpur. He mentioned that Rs 4 million has been spent on the construction of the eight houses and assured that support from the local government would be provided for the construction of toilets, water facilities, and roads.
