JHAPA: Four people living on the streets along the East-West Highway have been rescued in Mechinagar Municipality by the Jhapa branch of Manav Sewa Ashram.
The four individuals were rescued on Friday night from different locations, including Kakarbhitta, Itabhatta, Dhulabari and Charali, and taken to the ashram’s facility at Bahundangi in Mechinagar-4, said Neelkantha Tiwari, coordinator of the ashram’s guardian committee.
Among those rescued is a man who was released from prison a few days ago but had nowhere to go and was forced to live on the streets.
“After serving his sentence and being released from prison, he began living on the streets. Having no family members or relatives to turn to, he was also brought to the ashram for shelter,” Tiwari said.
The rescue operation was carried out with the assistance of the municipal police of Mechinagar Municipality.
Currently, around 100 people without family support are receiving shelter at the Jhapa branch of Manav Sewa Ashram in Bahundangi.
The initiative aims to provide shelter and care to vulnerable people living on the streets, particularly those without family support or access to a safe place to stay.
