Five wards of Bhimdutta municipality get rescue materials

KATHMANDU: Bhimdutta municipality in the district has distributed rescue equipment to its five wards which are vulnerable to disaster.

The Forest, Environment and Disaster Management Committee of the municipality on Friday distributed rescue materials like life jackets, belts, rubber tubes, torchlight, helmets and stretchers to ward no 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13, said Committee Coordinator Prakash Thapa.

These wards are located downstream of the Mahakali River and facing much vulnerability of river flooding.

“The government has declared these wards as disaster vulnerable areas and disaster preparedness has been forwarded accordingly,” he said with the hope that the materials would help in rescue operation during disaster.

Ward Chairperson of Bhimdutta municipality-12, Bhupendra Singh Rawal, shared that these wards are mostly affected by Mahakali River flood. “We have involved in preparedness as the government has already declared these places as disaster vulnerable areas. The Nepali Army has now been constructing embankment along the Mahakali River to protect the settlements from flood,” he added.

The Home Ministry on May 20 had declared five wards of the municipality as disaster vulnerable areas.
