Foreign Minister Rana urges Iranian counterpart to assist in Bipin Joshi’s release

KATHMANDU: In a diplomatic effort to secure the release of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi, who is under Hamas control, Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has reached out to the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sayyed Abbas Araghchi, via phone.

Minister Rana spoke with Foreign Minister Araghchi last night, urging him to take action for the release of Bipin, who remains under the custody of Hamas.

During the conversation, Minister Araghchi assured that he would prioritize the issue of Bipin’s release in his upcoming discussions with Hamas officials.

Following the ceasefire agreement between the Israeli government and Hamas, the latter has begun releasing prisoners under its control.

The Nepali government continues to pursue diplomatic channels to secure Bipin’s freedom.

Last week, Minister Dr. Rana also spoke with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, making the same appeal for Bipin’s release.

Since the start of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, Minister Dr. Rana has been urging Qatar and Egypt—both mediators in the peace talks—to take special steps for Bipin’s release.

A few weeks ago, Minister Rana had a phone conversation with the Israeli Foreign Minister.

Additionally, Nepali Ambassador to Israel, Prof. Dr. Dhan Prasad Pandit, made a similar request to the Israeli President.
