Nepal suffer 57-run defeat against Netherlands



KATHMANDU: Nepal has suffered its fourth consecutive defeat in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI tri-series in the Netherlands, losing to hosts the Netherlands by 57 runs on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 226 runs, Nepal was bowled out for 168 in 48 overs. Asif Sheikh was the top scorer with 38 runs, while captain Rohit Paudel made 26 and Karan KC contributed 23.

Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat, the Netherlands posted 225 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Noah Croes scored 70 runs and captain Scott Edwards added 57. For Nepal, Karan KC was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.

With the defeat, Nepal’s chances of finishing in the top four of the League 2 standings have virtually ended. Nepal now has 24 points from 32 matches and will have to depend on other results even if it wins all of its remaining fixtures.
