Govt’s policies and programs lack vision and purpose: Dr. Wagle

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Dr. Swarnim Wagle has criticized the government’s recently unveiled policies and programmes, saying they lack enthusiasm, excitement, and a clear sense of purpose.

Participating in the House of Representatives’ discussion on Tuesday, Wagle remarked that the government appears disconnected from the gravity of the current national situation.

“It feels like you don’t even recognize your own strength,” he said. “There is no enthusiasm. There is no excitement. There should be a grand purpose. When facing an economic crisis of this scale, what has this experiment produced? Almost nothing.”

Referring to the 7-point agreement that laid the foundation for the current ruling coalition, Wagle noted that its commitment to good governance and anti-corruption has turned into a mockery.

“The agreement stated, ‘We will not engage in corruption, we will deliver good governance.’ But now it’s a joke,” he said. “It’s as if ministers are being turned into comedians for television programs. That alone seems to suffice.”

He also criticized the lack of progress on constitutional amendments, despite repeated mentions. “Not a single concrete proposal has been brought forward, even after 10 or 11 months,” he said.

Questioning the effectiveness of a government backed by a two-thirds majority, Wagle asked, “Is this really the rhythm, character, and strength of a two-thirds government? Has it lived up to its historical mandate?”

He concluded by noting that, informally, he has observed growing frustration even within the ruling parties.
