Chitwan District Court sends Rabi Lamichhane to judicial custody
The Chitwan District Court has ordered Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane into judicial custody in connection with the Sahara Multipurpose Cooperative fraud case.
The decision was made on Wednesday after the court could not complete the hearing on Lamichhane’s case. The bench of Judge Daya Ram Dhakal issued the order, directing that he be kept in custody until further proceedings on Thursday, according to court information officer Amrit Bishwokarma.
On Tuesday, the District Government Attorney’s Office filed a case against Lamichhane and 31 others, accusing them of embezzling Rs 320.9 million from Sahara Cooperative.
Upendra Yadav undecided amid ordinance tug of war
Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSPN) Chair Upendra Yadav has stated that his party has yet to make a decision regarding the ordinances introduced by the government last month.
Speaking on Wednesday, Yadav clarified that no formal stance has been taken on whether to support or oppose the ordinances, which are currently under discussion in the federal parliament.
While the ordinances are expected to pass easily in the House of Representatives, the government lacks a majority in the National Assembly, making Yadav’s party a key player in the decision.
Government seeks institutional coordination after half the fiscal year passes
More than half of the fiscal year has passed, and the government is now deliberating on institutional coordination to boost revenue collection.
During a meeting of the Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee held on Wednesday, ministers and government officials discussed the need for coordination among concerned agencies to make revenue leakage control more effective.
The government has set a revenue collection target of Rs 1.719 trillion for the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25). However, as of Tuesday (Magh 22), only 42.83% of the target had been achieved. According to the Office of the Comptroller General under the Ministry of Finance, a total of Rs 607.94 billion has been collected so far, with tax revenue at 41.48% of the target and non-tax revenue at 55.71%.
Triangular Series: Nepal loses match against Netherlands by 10 wickets
Nepal lost today’s match in the 2025 Nepal Women’s Tri-Nation Series to the Netherlands.
In the match held at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Cricket Ground in Kirtipur Nepal was defeated by the Netherlands by 10 wickets.
Chasing a target of 146 runs set by Nepal, the Netherlands reached the target in 19.4 overs without losing any wickets.
In their victory, Sterre Kalis remained not out with 98 runs, including 11 boundaries and two sixes off 69 balls. Phebe Molkenboer was also not out, scoring 48 runs with four boundaries off 49 balls.
Nepali Embassy in Oman starts issuing labor permit
The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat, Oman, has officially started issuing Labour Permits for Nepali workers who are legally working in Oman but have not yet obtained such permits from Nepal.
The first live enrollment for the legalization of Labour Permits in foreign countries began on January 31, 2025, in Salalah, Oman.
The new provision for the legalization of Labour Permits directly through the Embassy is expected to greatly benefit Nepali workers, allowing them to receive various benefits in accordance with the policy of the Government of Nepal, according to a statement issued by the Embassy on Tuesday.
Gold price increases by Rs 2,200 per tola
The price of gold in the Nepali market has risen by Rs 2,200 per tola today.
According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation, the price of 24-carat gold has surged to Rs 1,66,900 per tola on Wednesday, an increase from the previous day’s rate.
On Tuesday, the price of 24-carat gold had already increased by Rs 1,900 per tola, bringing it to Rs 1,64,700.
Jajarkot earthquake: Detailed damage assessment and reconstruction plans set to begin
It has been 15 months since the earthquake centered in Ramidanda, Jajarkot, struck on November 3, 2023.
The earthquake claimed 150 lives across Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim, injuring hundreds more.
The earthquake caused damage to 68,326 structures across Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim, and Salyan.
