DHANUSHA: Madhesh Province’s Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh asserted that those cooperatives functioning righteously were discredited and defamed due to wrongdoing of some fraudulent cooperatives.

CM Singh said it at an orientation on promotion of good governance in cooperative sector organized by the National Cooperative Federation Limited (NCFN) in Janakpurdham on Sunday.

Singh observed that if the cooperatives deliver as per their values and norms, that could significantly contribute to the economic development and prosperity of the country.

Likewise, Jay Kumar Ghimire, Acting Secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Madhesh Province, acknowledged the ‘notable’ contributions of cooperatives in job creation and economic development.

He emphasized promotion of cooperatives that are working well by adhering to the values and principles.
Lalmani Acharya, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Madhesh Province said that the State was taking stringent actions against cooperatives duping depositors.

Om Devi Malla, the Chairperson of National Cooperatives Federation, said that the wrongdoings of some people had led to defamation of entire cooperative sector.

Thus, she spoke of the need for the State to protect and promote the cooperatives that were doing fairly good works.
Other participants including NCFN’s senior Vice-Chairperson Ramesh Prasad Pokharel and Vice-Chairperson Urmila Panta underscored publicity of good works executed by the cooperatives.
