KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has continued efforts to ease the tensions seen in Sunsari and other parts of the Tarai-Madhesh region.
He has remained engaged in continuous dialogue since Wednesday and on Friday began consultations with leaders of different religious communities.
Lamichhane held talks with Muslim leaders Maulana Nurul Hussain and Maulana Mohammad Khalid at the party’s parliamentary office in Singha Durbar on Friday.
He also met leaders of the Hindu Federation, including General Secretary Ram Chandra Tiwari and Secretariat member Rajuraj Phuyal.
By engaging leaders from both religious communities, Lamichhane has sought to create an atmosphere supportive of social and religious harmony.
Earlier, he convened an all-party meeting on Wednesday in an effort to reduce the tensions that began in Sunsari on Sunday. On Thursday, he held discussions with leaders of Madhesh-based parties, met President Ram Chandra Paudel, and separately consulted RSP lawmakers elected from Koshi and Madhesh provinces.
