Minister Dahal calls for sustainable, quality infrastructure development



KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, has opined for connecting infrastructure development to economic growth.

He said so in his address to a programme organised on the occasion of the 22nd establishment day of Roads Board Nepal.
Stating that Nepal is still under the development phase, the Minister stressed the need of focusing on building sustainable, safe and useful infrastructures.

He added that the Ministry has given priority to projects capable of directly supporting the people’s life, revenue collection, economic growth and a larger section of people and geography.

He pressed the need to set priorities in any of projects to relating to infrastructure building.

Directing for a prompt management of sick tenders under the Board, the Minister urged the Board to accelerate road repairs together with monitoring.

National Planning Commission Vice- Chair Dr Shibaraj Adhikari said roadways are the major foundation for economic growth and road connectivity is expanded in a way that could contribute to economic development and growth.

Stating that investment in infrastructure development will yield results, he called for ensuring stability and quality in infrastructure projects.

Board Executive Director Ganesh KC highlighted the need for the government to work for autonomy of the Board.

An annual report of the Board for the last fiscal year was released on the occasion.
