KATHMANDU: The government has announced grants for the construction of temporary housing for families who lost their homes in the recent floods on Friday and Saturday.
A meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Executive Committee held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday decided to identify beneficiaries within seven days.
The first installment of the subsidy will be made available within three days, adhering to the standards for temporary housing construction.
Rishiram Tiwari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs, stated that the meeting also decided to continue search and rescue operations in affected areas and to initiate the distribution of relief through a streamlined process.
Additionally, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has committed to restoring blocked road sections promptly to facilitate the movement of stranded passengers.
Spokesperson Tiwari emphasized that relevant agencies will expedite administrative tasks to ensure the swift restoration of services, including roads and drinking water supply, following the floods and landslides.
In anticipation of potential health risks following the disaster, the Ministry of Health and Population will conduct public awareness campaigns and set up health camps in at-risk areas to prevent the spread of epidemics.
The meeting also decided that relevant ministries will move forward with the reconstruction of damaged public infrastructure, including government buildings, roads, bridges, water supply systems, schools, and health institutions.
Furthermore, a committee will be formed under the coordination of a Joint Secretary from the Disaster Authority to assess the damages and compile detailed reports within 15 days.
