‘Dragon Boat Race Festival’ kicks off today at Fewa Lake in Pokhara



POKHARA: The second edition of the ‘Nepal-China Friendly Dragon Boat Race Festival’ begins today at Pokhara’s Fewa Lake, aiming to promote Nepal’s tourism and strengthen cultural ties between Nepal and China.

The festival will feature participants from Nepal, China, and Singapore, with the races taking place at Fewa Lake, one of Pokhara’s main tourist attractions.

The competition will run until Monday (December 30), with 20 teams taking part.

The event is jointly organized by the Gandaki Provincial Government, Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and the Nepal Tourism Board.

Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, confirmed that all preparations for the festival have been completed.

He noted that 129 participants arrived in Pokhara on a chartered flight from Chengdu, China to take part in the event.

The race will feature eight teams from China, one from Singapore, and 11 teams from various regions of Nepal.

The Nepali teams include representatives from Gandaki, Bagmati, Karnali, Tribhuvan Army Club, Dragon Boat Gandaki, Begnas Team, Rupatal Team, and the Nepal Rafting Agencies Association (NARA).

Winners of the 500-meter and 200-meter races will receive cash prizes: US$5,000 for first place, US$2,000 for second place, and US$1,200 for third place.
