KMC demands tax payment from govt-owned and social organizations

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued letters to government-owned and registered social organizations operating businesses, urging them to pay outstanding property and rental taxes.

Organizations notified by KMC in the first phase include Krishi Samagri Company, Pashupati Area Development Fund, Marwadi Sewa Samiti, and Food Management and Trade Company Limited, among others.

Deepak Adhikari, Chief of KMC’s Revenue Department, confirmed the move aligns with tax collection guidelines.

KMC’s authority to levy rental taxes is grounded in Section 57 of the Local Government Operation Act, 2017, which empowers municipalities to tax rental incomes within their jurisdiction.

Additionally, provisions under the Intergovernmental Financial Management Act, 2017, and KMC Revenue Act, 2018, support this tax collection framework.

KMC has been implementing these provisions to ensure compliance and financial accountability, adhering to directives outlined in the Constitution and the Annual Financial Act issued by the Municipal Assembly.
