Minister Khadka for bringing Sankhuwasabha-Kimathanka road in operation soon



KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has called for immediately bringing in operation the road linking Khandbari of Sankhuwasabha to Kimathanka, bordering China.

Minister Khadka met with Defence Minister Manbir Rai and drew his attention towards the slow pace of Khandbari-Kimathanka road construction.

The Nepali Army under the Defence Ministry has been carrying out the construction of the road section.

On the occasion, the Energy Minister enquired about the present situation of the road section and urged the Nepali Army to bring the road into operation by completing the construction activities soon.

Khandbari-Kimathanka road is under Koshi Lhasa highway and the road, after the completion of the section, would play significant role in tri-national transit, he added, saying the road would be a milestone in development of Nepal’s economic sector once it comes into operation.

Minister Khadka shared that many hydropower projects could be constructed at this area and remarkable achievements could be gained in hydropower development through the access of this road.

Similarly, Defence Minister Rai directed the Nepali Army to complete the construction of the road soon and bring it into operation as the road section would be remain as significant infrastructure in country’s development.

He shared that the government has put Kimathanka border, Hilsa border and Kreung border in priority.

Likewise, Colonel Dharmendra Kumar Jha said track opening task at the most difficult area of the road section has reached final phase and recently allocated budget for the construction of the road section is insufficient.

He further said the construction of the road could be completed within next two months and brought into operation if there is guarantee of budget.

The Nepali Army have been carrying out track opening and upgrading task of the 158-51 kilometer Khandabari-Kimathanka road section. Vehicles are partially in operation along the road section.
