KATHMANDU: Minister for Drinking Water, Pradeep Yadav, has said the ministry’s is committed to ensuring a continuous supply of pure drinking water from the Melamchi River to Kathmandu Valley residents throughout the year.

During a meeting with ministry officials and employees, Yadav highlighted the need to provide round-the-clock access to clean water from Melamchi.

“We must work in a way that meets citizens’ expectations. The ministry will provide all necessary support and coordination to complete pending tasks expeditiously,” he said.

The Minister also urged swift action to implement agreements with Helambu residents and the local struggle committee in Sindhupalchowk, addressing concerns raised during the process of bringing Melamchi water to Kathmandu.

He reiterated the ministry’s responsibility to resolve these issues while focusing on sustainable solutions for water distribution.

In addition, Minister Yadav directed immediate repairs to the Dhobighat Wastewater Treatment Center in Lalitpur, which suffered significant damage during the September 26 floods.

The treatment center, near completion and set for handover, requires urgent restoration to address structural and equipment damages caused by the disaster.

Rajendra Bahadur Bam, Chief of Administration at the Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited Project Implementation Directorate, explained that the Dhobighat center was in its final stages of construction before the floods disrupted progress.

Yadav also called for urgent measures to repair leaking water pipes and to deploy additional human resource to areas facing acute water shortages.

“Wherever complaints about water issues have been received, human resources must be mobilized immediately to resolve them,” he added.
