Prachanda to Rabindra Mishra: If King Gyanendra had softened, Nepal’s path could have been different

KATHMANDU: Rabindra Mishra, Senior Vice Chairperson of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), held talks with Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, Chairman of the Maoist Center.

Following their discussion at Prachanda’s residence in Khumaltar, Mishra shared a photo of the meeting and expressed his views on the monarchy.

Mishra stated that the country has reached a critical juncture where, without the restoration of the monarchy, it risks heading towards chaos.

“If the monarchy is not restored, this country will head towards a state of explosion. At that time, nothing will remain of your progress, name, and legacy,” Mishra told Prachanda.

Mishra highlighted seven key points from their conversation, emphasizing that Prachanda believes the current situation is untenable.

According to Mishra, Prachanda reflected on the positive aspects of the Panchayat era, calling King Mahendra a “visionary.”

He also noted, “During the Maoist conflict-era, some of my friends were completely against the monarchy. I, however, believed in working alongside the king if it was in the country’s best interests.”

Prachanda said that if King Gyanendra had taken a softer approach during the 2062/063 agitation, the circumstances today would likely be different.
