KATHMANDU: Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) chairman Mahantha Thakur, has accused that the state is still fostering discriminatory behavior against the Madhesi community.

During a program organized by the Democratic Intellectuals’ Association affiliated to LSP on the occasion of the 17th Martyrs’ Day, Chairman Thakur claimed that the state is nurturing division and discrimination against Madhesi people.

The LSP chair mentioned instances where the administration has suppressed the Madhesi community, even though their rights are acknowledged in the constitution.

Chairman Thakur expressed concern over the unequal budget allocation for the densely populated Madhes region. He highlighted the continuous need for an ongoing movement to establish the rights of the Madhesi community.

Referring to the sacrifice of Ramesh Mahato in the first Madhes Movement on Magh 5, 2063 BS (January 19, 2007), the Madhes centric parties and Madhes province government observe Magh 5 as a day of sacrifice.
