Today marks the last day for Dashain tika

KATHMANDU: Today, Ashwin Shuklapaksha Chaturdashi and Purnima coincide, marking the last day to put ‘tika’ and ‘jamara’ for this year’s Bada Dashain, serving as a blessing from Navadurga.

Chaturdashi occurs during sunrise, while Purnima begins at midnight, which means Kojagrat Purnima is celebrated today.

The Purnima fast, traditionally observed in the evening when the Purnima date arrives, is set for Thursday, October 17.

The practice of putting ‘tika’ and ‘jamara’ started on Bijaya Dashami and continues until today, commemorating the blessings of Navadurga from Ashwin Shukla Pratipada to Nawami.

During this festive period, near and distant relatives visit each other to exchange blessings from Bijaya Dashami through Ashwin Shukla Purnima.

Bada Dashain serves as a special occasion for families to reunite and receive the blessings of Navadurga.

Following the usually quiet days of Maha Ashtami and Maha Nawami, Kathmandu has begun to buzz with activity since Bijaya Dashami.

After the public holiday for Bada Dashain ended on Monday, government offices resumed operations on Tuesday.
