Pandey and Niraula unanimously endorsed as SC judges
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has unanimously approved the appointments of two proposed judges for the Supreme Court (SC).
The Committee, which convened at 11:00 am on Friday, confirmed the names of Judges Nripadhwaj Niraula and Nityananda Pandey following their hearings.
During the meeting, both proposed judges presented their action plans to the lawmakers. After reviewing their plans, the committee approved their nominations as Supreme Court judges.
Originally scheduled for October 30, the hearing was delayed but proceeded on Friday.
Five killed, 24 injured in Surkhet accident
Five people died and 24 others were injured in a road accident at Ranimatta on the Surkhet-Dailekh border.
According to the District Police Office in Surkhet, the vehicle (Karnali Province 02001 B 0998) was traveling from Dailekh Bazaar to Surkhet when it lost control and crashed.
TIA to remain closed for 10 hours
The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu will be closed for 10 hours each day for the next five months, starting today.
The closure is part of a major upgrade project, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
The Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project includes the widening of the southwest taxiway, as well as expansions of the international apron (to the north) and the hangar apron (to the east). The total estimated cost of the upgrades is Rs 15 billion.
During the closure, which will be from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am, no flights will operate. This will affect the airport’s usual operating hours, which are from 6:00 am to 2:00 am.
Gold and silver prices experience upward trend today
Gold and silver prices both experienced an upward trend on Friday.
The Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation reported that gold surged by 2,000 rupees per tola, reaching 166,500 rupees per tola. This followed a Thursday price of 164,500 rupees per tola.
Similarly, silver prices also saw a rise. Silver is now being traded at 1,980 rupees per tola, marking an increase of 20 rupees from the previous price, according to the federation.
Deputy Commander of US Army Indo-Pacific Command arrives in Kathmandu
A six-member military team led by Lt. Gen. Joshua M. Rudd, Deputy Commander of the US Army’s Indo-Pacific Command, arrived in Nepal on Friday.
Invited by the Nepali Army, the high-level delegation landed in Kathmandu on a special flight on Friday afternoon.
The team includes four military officers and two crew members, and they were received at the airport by officials from the US Embassy.
CPN-UML holding Secretariat meeting tomorrow
The CPN-UML is holding its Secretariat meeting tomorrow, Saturday.
The meeting to be held at the party’s central office, Chyasal in Lalitpur is expected to discuss the current political scenario, among other issues.
According to UML Publicity Department Chief Rajendra Gautam, the meeting will focus on current political developments, the coordination mechanism established to support the government, upcoming by-elections, and other key issues.
Will appear in court after receiving full text of verdict: Deepak Manange
Rajib Gurung, alias Deepak Manange, a member of the Gandaki Province Assembly, has stated that he will appear in court once he receives the full written text of the Supreme Court’s verdict.
In a statement issued on Friday, Gurung explained, “Since the announcement of the verdict, I have temporarily turned off my mobile phone due to continuous calls from certain substandard media outlets. I have observed misleading news being spread by various media, and I object to such reporting.”
He added, “I would like to inform everyone that I will appear in court once I receive the full written text of the Supreme Court’s verdict.”
Unified Socialist asks province committees to recommend candidates for by-election
The Unified Socialist has asked its concerned province committees to make recommendations for the candidates for the by-elections to take place in some local levels on December 1.
Secretary of the party, Som Prasad Pandey said that the local committees have been directed to make recommendations by November 15.
He said that the recommendations should be made by identifying experienced leaders with organizational capacity and developmental know-how.
Ministerial discussions on checking airfare rise
An inter-ministerial meeting was held on the issue of the rise in international airfare.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey today held discussions with Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba and Minister for Labour and Employment Sharat Singh Bhandari.
Tourism Minister Pandey had a discussion with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Labour and Employment, and the representatives of the Overseas Employment Promotion Organization on the issues including financial burdens to the labourers bound to overseas employment due to the rise in airfare.
Pokhara hosting Third Cross-country Race tomorrow
The third Cross-Country Race is taking place in Pokhara tomorrow, organized by the Himalayan Tourism Forum.
Athletes from Nepal and neighboring China are participating in the competition, which features four categories: a 50-kilometer group race, a 50-kilometer individual race (for both males and females), a student race, a five-kilometer race, and a two-kilometer “Happy Run”.
The winning team in the 50-kilometer group race will receive a cash prize of Rs 45,800, while the first runner-up will bag Rs 343,000.
