Swarnalaxmi Cooperative’s audit committee member arrested



KATHMANDU: District Police Range Kathmandu has arrested Sunita Newa, a member of the audit committee for Swarnalaxmi Multi-Purpose Cooperative, in connection with alleged embezzlement of members’ savings.

Newa was arrested on Tuesday night amid accusations of involvement in financial wrongdoing related to the cooperative’s funds.

The cooperative’s president, Gitendrababu Rai, also known as GB Rai, remains at large. Rai faces similar allegations after 645 savers lodged complaints alleging the embezzlement of their deposits.

Police confirmed that investigations into the cooperative fraud case are underway, based on multiple complaints from affected savers.
