PM and ministers to contribute one month’s salary to Govt Relief Fund
A meeting of the Cabinet has decided to donate one month’s salary to support rescue and relief efforts for victims of monsoon-related disasters.
This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting on Monday.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Armed Police Force (APF) stated that the ongoing heavy rainfall from Thursday to Saturday has resulted in 238 fatalities, with 28 individuals still missing.
10 bridges connecting Sindhuli to Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga damaged
Continuous rainfall from last Thursday to Saturday led to significant flooding in the Sunkoshi River, damaging a total of 10 bridges that connect Sindhuli with the Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga districts.
The flooding resulted in the destruction of two motorable bridges and eight suspension bridges, severely disrupting transportation to the hilly areas.
Govt failed to mitigate disaster damage: RPP Chair Lingden
Rajendra Lingden, Chairperson of the Rastriya Prajatantra (RPP), has criticized the government for its inadequate response to national disasters, including floods, landslides, and inundation.
In a statement on Facebook today, Lingden described the remarks made by Prime Minister KP Oli and other ministers regarding these natural calamities as objectionable.
He noted that while the meteorologist’s ‘red alert’ system cannot completely prevent disasters, it could have helped minimize the damage. “The government has failed to act effectively,” he stated.
NEPSE index climbs 114.70 points
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index experienced a notable increase of 114.70 points (4.57%) today, ending at 2,623.56 after gaining 44.45 points in the previous session.
The market displayed volatility, beginning at 2,510.35 points, dropping to an intraday low of 2,510.11, and reaching a high of 2,623.56.
By the close of trading, 307 stocks were exchanged over 96,906 transactions, resulting in a total turnover of Rs. 7.61 billion with 17,507,555 shares traded.
Gold price drops in domestic market
Gold prices in the domestic market decreased by Rs 500 per tola, settling at Rs 160,000, down from Rs 160,500 the previous day.
This decline was reported by the Nepal Gold and Silver Traders Federation. Additionally, silver prices also fell, dropping by Rs 15 to Rs 1,925 per tola.
The decrease in both gold and silver prices may reflect broader market trends, demand fluctuations, or changes in investor sentiment.
Foreign Minister Rana and MCC CEO Albright review MCC project in Nepal
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba met with Alice P. Albright, CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), to discuss the progress of the MCC project in Nepal, signed in 2017.
The meeting at the Nepali Embassy emphasized the need for timely completion of the project, which includes a transmission line and road upgrades funded by $50 million in assistance.
Road travel returning to normal after floods and landslides
Road transport to the Kathmandu Valley has improved as various entry points have become operational again.
The roads leading to the Valley were previously closed due to flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains in recent days. Vehicular traffic is now flowing on the Tribhuvan Highway and the Prithvi Highway after clearing landslide debris at Jhyaplekhola in Dhading.
Superintendent of Police at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Office, Rabin Karki, reported that vehicles are exiting the Valley via Sanga Bhanjyang in the east, reaching Chautara via the Araniko Highway and Bhakunde Besi via the BP Highway.
Diversity Visa (DV) program 2026 to open tomorrow
Registration for the US Department of State Diversity Visa (DV) Program 2026 will open tomorrow (October 2, 2024) and will run upto November 5, 2024.
The dvprogram.state.gov is the only way to enter, according to the United States Department of State.
The law allows only one entry by or for each person during each registration period.
Advance Dashain tickets to remain open, with 10-point decision

Cooperative Fraud: Dhorpatan Mayor Dev Kumar Nepali Sentenced to Jail
Mayor of Dhorpatan Municipality, Dev Kumar, involved in a fraud case related to millions of rupees in savings from Image Cooperative, has been sent to prison.
Following a hearing on Tuesday at the Baglung District Court, Judge Ramesh Kant Adhikari ordered Dev Kumar to be placed in custody for preliminary investigation.
Government’s plan: Relief to flood victims after completing search and rescue within two days
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that relief distribution for victims of the continuous rains, floods, landslides, and inundation on Ashwin 11th and 12th has begun.
In a press conference held on Tuesday at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar, he also stated that the search and rescue work in the flood-affected areas will be completed within two days.
Prime Minister Oli further said that the injured would receive free medical treatment. He assured that necessary measures have been put in place to prevent and control possible diseases that may spread following the disaster.
Two way traffic resumes after landslide debris cleared in Dhading’s Jhyaple River area
The road blocked by a landslide at Jhyaple River in Dhading has been reopened for two-way traffic. The road, which had been closed since 12 PM for repairs, was cleared a short while ago.
Initially, the road remained completely blocked until 2 PM, and repairs began shortly afterward. After several hours of work, traffic has now resumed in both directions.
Kathmandu District Court grants bail to Durga Prasai
The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of Durga Prasai, the owner of B&C Medical College, on a bond of NRP 100,000.
The bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel issued the ruling on Tuesday.
Prasain was arrested on the charge of cyber crime after he made a public statement that character assassinated Jwala Sangraula, a leader of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party.
