Koshi Province Assembly unanimously passes budget

BIRATNAGAR: The Koshi Province Assembly achieved unanimous consent in passing the Appropriation Bill on Wednesday, effectively replacing the Ordinance Budget previously under discussion.

Chief Minister Kedar Karki introduced the budget replacement bill with an additional 500 million on November 25. The presented budget statement outlined a proposal of 36,743,510,000 for the ongoing financial year.

Initially, six MPs from CPN-UML and two MPs from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) had suggested budget cuts, contesting the presented bill. However, following the withdrawal of their proposal, the assembly moved forward to decide on the appropriation bill, garnering support from all parties through a unanimous voice vote.

The MPs advocating expense cuts included UML Chief Whip Rewati Raman Bhandari, Bidur Kumar Lingthep, Kishore Chandra Dulal, Tilchan Pathak, Kamala Darnal, and Niran Rai, alongside Bhakti Prasad Sitaula and Gopal Bishwakarma of RPP. Despite dissatisfaction expressed by UML and RPP during the Appropriation Bill discussion, unanimous agreement was eventually reached.
