Nepali Embassy co-organizes World Food Festival 2023 in South Africa



KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Pretoria, South Africa, is co-organizing the second edition of World Food Festival 2023 at the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC), Pretoria all through this week.

The Embassy is co-organizing the event in partnership with KCC, The Diplomatic Society, and other diplomatic missions of the participating countries, the Embassy of Nepal said.

This food festival is a collaborative cultural initiative that showcases a rich variety of cuisines and culinary practices of these countries including Nepal, and endeavours to promote global unity and solidarity through cultural diplomacy.

In his remarks at the Opening Ceremony on Monday, 26th of June, Ambassador Dan Bahadur Tamang spoke about unique but shared aspects of various cultures, and stressed the importance of the event in uniting peoples from diverse social, geographical, and cultural spaces.

While highlighting specialties of Nepali cultures that embody altruism, respect and peaceful co-existence at its core, Ambassador Tamang urged the distinguished guests and visitors to enjoy Nepali cuisines such as Sel Roti, mixed potato pickle, Aloo Chop, meat, green tea, coffee and also to learn cooking in separate cooking classes.

Talking about various aspects of cultures, cuisines of their respective countries, other Ambassador/High Commissioners shared perspectives on crucial role of cuisines in diplomacy and international relations.

At least 10 participants learned to cook Nepali Sel Roti and mixed potato pickle in the Cooking Experience Session of the event, the Embassy stated in a press release.

Framed photos featuring cuisines of Brazil, Chile, Iran, Philippines, South Africa, South Korea, and Sri Lanka, including Nepal are being put on display throughout the Festival.

Over 300 visitors including members of diplomatic corps, officials of South African Government, students and mediapersons are expected to observe and taste cuisines on the occasion.

The Food Festival will conclude on Friday, 30th of June.
