Govt writing to Chinese company on Tamor project on eve of PM Dahal’s India visit



KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to send a letter to the Chinese company about the 756-megawatt Tamor reservoir project to be built with Chinese investment.

The Meeting of the Investment Board held, on the eve of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to India decided to write to the Chinese company China Power about this.

An agreement was reached with the proponent China Power on January 19, 2020, to proceed with the project. However, the joint secretary and spokesperson of the board, Amrit Lamsal, informed that the board decided not to write to the company, concluding that the agreement has not been followed so far.

“The meeting decided to correspond with the proponent regarding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding dated January 19, 2020, regarding the development of the 756 MW Tamor Reservoir Hydropower Project”, Spokesperson Lamsal said issuing a statement on Sunday.

The meeting also decided to recommend a PDA with an Indian company for the development of the Lower Arun Hydropower Project with a capacity of 669 MW.

The government is planning an agreement on this during PM Dahal’s visit to India.
According to the Investment Board, an investment of Rs 92.68 billion has been approved for the project.
