KATHMANDU: Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, the Finance Minister, has stressed the importance of coordination among all government agencies to effectively prevent illegal transactions and smuggling through Tribhuvan International Airport.
During an on-site inspection of Tribhuvan International Airport Customs today, Minister Mahat addressed reporters, highlighting the need for seamless cooperation between the Revenue Investigation Department, Customs Department, District Police, Armed Police, Nepali Army, and Civil Aviation Authority at the airport to minimize smuggling and criminal activities.
Minister Mahat also emphasized the significance of upgrading connected technology to stay relevant with the times.
The Ministry of Finance pledged its full support for technology upgrades.
He acknowledged that relying solely on individual agencies would not yield optimal results and underscored the necessity of a coordinated approach among all stakeholders to curtail border crossing abuses, smuggling, and illegal business activities.
“I firmly believe that all government mechanisms will diligently strive to prevent any form of exemption or evasion under any circumstances,” he asserted.
Regarding the recent incident where one quintal of gold evaded customs at Tribhuvan International Airport, Minister Mahat assured that an ongoing investigation was underway.
He expressed confidence in the independence of the investigation process and reiterated the Ministry of Finance’s unwavering support for the investigation.
