Let’s avoid creating unwarranted confusion on Nepali Army number: Defense Minister Khadka

KATHMANDU: Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka stated that the issue of the number of Nepali Army should not be unnecessarily sensationalized, as there exists a body responsible for deliberating such concerns.

In response to queries posed by lawmakers on Monday, Minister Khadka clarified that the government follows a legal framework to determine troop numbers based on the recommendations put forth by the Security Council.

He urged lawmakers to avoid creating unwarranted confusion around this matter.

“As the number of Nepal army is determined based on the responsibilities entrusted by the constitution and laws, other responsibilities assigned by the government from time to time, the work to be done while being active in international peacekeeping operations, the geographical situation of the country, and the international environment, we should not consider it in absolute terms, it should not be made a subject to fuss,” he said.

Minister Khadka recalled the role Nepali Army played in disaster management and added that the government is committed to enhancing the capacity of the Nepali Army.
