Gandaki government intensifies infrastructure development

POKHARA: The Gandaki Province government has intensified the construction of physical infrastructure, including roads and bridges.

According to the Infrastructure Development Office in Baglung, the construction of both newly-designed and existing infrastructure projects has been gradually gaining momentum.

Office Chief Dinesh Kumar Ghimire stated that ongoing projects and new ventures have entered the implementation phase.

He mentioned that the office has instructed the construction company to resume work on problematic projects.

Ghimire informed that progress has been made on the old multi-year road project, and contracts for more than half of the projects, ranging from Rs. 3 million to Rs. 20 million, have been signed.

The office has a total budget of Rs. 880 million for the current fiscal year, with 65 projects, both new and existing, scheduled for implementation.

According to Ghimire, detailed project reports for two roads and two road bridges planned for construction in the current fiscal year are under development.

The progress of multi-year road and bridge construction had been sluggish recently.

Ghimire mentioned that the contractor company, which initially hesitated, has resumed work after progress was halted. Contractor companies are now prepared to restart stalled construction works, following preparations to terminate contracts and blacklist dysfunctional companies.

The office identified six road projects as problematic, and the budget for the multi-year contract of two roads and two road bridges has been approved by the Ministry of Economic Affairs based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Physical Affairs.

An additional Rs. 210 million budget has been sought to complete the old multi-year schemes this year.
