KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has indicated that the government could possibly take decisions in a new manner if needed in connection with the incidents taking place in the districts of the Madhes province, including Sarlahi.

Addressing the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, House of Representatives, meeting today, he said regular information is being taken through the administration and the security apparatus regarding the ground situation including the law and order in Koshi and Madhes provinces.

CPN (UML) lawmaker Raghuji Panta and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party’s Sarbendra Nath Shukla had through the Committee informed the government regarding the increasing tension with the efforts of fomenting religious and communal incidents in Sarlahai and other districts. They had also sought necessary information about this from the government.

Stating that the government is serious over the information that attempts were afoot to disturb the unity in diversity of Nepal as it is a country having multi-ethnic, multi-culture, multi-religious diversities, the Home Minister said, “A question has arisen whether such activities are happening knowingly or unknowingly or with some specific purpose. We have taken this seriously.”

He said the government is watching these developments so that it will not have to take administrative decisions as far as possible to stem such activities, but discussions are being held on taking such steps as the situation has been deteriorating of late.

“Efforts are being made to seek solutions by creating a conducive environment in terms of ideological and political manner, keeping in mind the challenges that might come up while addressing the disturbances mainly through the administrative approach. We are also serious from the administrative aspects as well and moving ahead cautiously without allowing for any weaknesses on the part of the entire administration and the police apparatus,” DPM and Home Minister Shrestha said.

He said that regarding the smuggling of gold through the airport, the police investigation bureau has been time and again instructed to carry out the investigations demonstrating its full efficiency, and getting to the root of the scam. There will be no interference from the government in this, he reiterated.
