Maoist Center to quit Gandaki government today



POKHARA: Maoist Center is set to quit the Gandaki provincial government today.

The party is holding a parliamentary party meeting today to take a formal decision to quit the government.

Parliamentary Party leader Hari Bahadur Chuman said that they would the Gandaki government today (Friday).

“We will quit the government today,” he said.

Chuman stated that the Maoist Center and Nepali Congress have agreed to lead the state government alternately.

Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who is also the Prime Minister, on Thursday, instructed the Maoist Provincial Committee to quit the Gandaki government.

Currently, the CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Khagaraj Adhikari leads the Gandaki Province government as the Chief Minister.

After the Maoists withdraw their support to the government, Chief Minister Adhikari will have to take a vote of confidence within a month.

The UML has 22 lawmakers, and the Maoist Center has 8 lawmakers in the Gandaki government.

The Maoist Center, meanwhile, has 27 lawmakers, Rastriya Prajatantra Party 2 and one from the Unified Socialist Party.
