KATHMANDU: Water levels in major rivers across the country remain below the alert threshold as of Saturday morning, although rainfall could cause their flows to rise, according to the Flood Forecasting Division.
The Division said the flow of the Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali and their tributaries, as well as the Kankai, Kamala, Babai, East Rapti and West Rapti rivers, is currently below the alert level.
Despite the current situation, the water levels in these rivers are expected to increase with continued rainfall.
Meanwhile, the flow of smaller rivers in Taplejung, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, Saptari, Udayapur, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Kavrepalanchok, Makawanpur, Chitwan, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Sarlahi and Mahottari, as well as surrounding areas, is likely to rise significantly today.
The Division has warned of a moderate risk of flash floods in these areas.
