KATHMANDU: The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is bringing into operation the ‘Hop On, Hop off bus service’ from today (Tuesday).

NTB Chief Executive Officer Dr Dhananjaya Regmi said the ‘hop on, hop off’ bus is coming into operation from Tuesday as a mobile bus service along the routes connecting UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu.

“As per the interest of Tourism Minister Sudan Kiranti, the heritage bus service is coming into operation,” he said, adding, “Such bus service is in operation in most of the tourism destinations across the world. Though the operation of bus service has long been in debate in Nepal, the NTB this time is bringing this service despite the possible loss.”

Two electric Sajha buses would be operated as heritage buses in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

The ‘hop on, hop off bus’ service that would begin from Lalitpur Metropolitan City would operate mobile transport service in the routes connecting the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Narayanhiti Durbar Museum, Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddhanath and Swoyambhu.

“Two buses would be operated in each area from half an hour to 45 minutes. After operating free service for some days, the charge will be arranged later”, he informed.
