Multiple earthquakes shake Kathmandu and surrounding areas on Sunday



KATHMANDU: A series of earthquakes rattled Kathmandu and its vicinity throughout Sunday.

According to the National Earthquake Measurement and Research Center, a total of seven earthquakes were recorded, with the epicenter situated in Dhading. The morning saw a significant 6.1 magnitude earthquake, followed by a 5.1 magnitude quake in the evening.

The 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:39 am on Sunday, with its epicenter near Khari in Dhading. This seismic event resulted in damage to 20 houses, leaving some of them in ruins.

Subsequently, three more earthquakes struck in the morning. A 4.2 magnitude quake occurred at 8:08 am, followed by a 4.3 magnitude tremor at 8:28 am, and a 4.1 magnitude quake at 8:59 am.

The center reported another earthquake at 4:03 pm on Sunday, registering a magnitude of 4.4.

In the evening, at 5:31 pm, a magnitude five earthquake originated from Dhading. Just two minutes later, at 5:33 pm, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded, as confirmed by the center.

While the morning earthquakes resulted in damage to houses, the District Police Office in Dhading reported no information about the impact of the evening tremors.
