KATHMANDU: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) faced a rupture following its 11th convention, leading to the emergence of parallel factions.

Driven by the recent victory of the team led by Badri KC, a competing committee surfaced, led by the defeated candidate RK Sharma.

In a recent statement released post-convention, it was revealed that serious irregularities were uncovered during the voting process.

The convention held in Kathmandu on last week employed face verification technology facilitated by Vero, an Australian-based company, for both physical and online voting.

Consequently, the newly-elected leadership under RK Sharma, unanimously elected as President for the term 2023-25, was a result of a reevaluation of the faulty election results announced on October 20, 2023.

The defeated party named Dr. Keshav Paudel as the vice-chairman of the newly formed working committee.

Despite winning the election, Paudel declined the position of vice-president within the incumbent camp and aligned himself with the defeated group.

An unprecedented technical glitch resulted in Paudel receiving zero votes from Kathmandu.

Among other nominations, Khagendra Neupane, Raj Regmi, Narayan Acharya, Sunil Shah, Gangadhar Gautam, and Gobinda Shrestha were selected as vice-presidents.

Rojina Pradhan Rai was elected as the female vice-president, while Abdul Wasid assumed the position of youth vice-president.

Buddhisagar Subedi took the role of the new general secretary of the opposition faction.

Additionally, a strong team of deputy general secretaries and secretaries, along with a women’s secretary, was formed.

Thakur Prasad Dhungana was appointed as the treasurer, accompanied by co-treasurers Tilak Gayre, Krishna Timalsina, Mohammad Mustafa, and Trishna Sharma.
